Fluidized Bed Plastic Coating

PVC and Nylon Fluid Bed Coating Services

Fluidized Bed Powder Coating for Racks, Baskets, Brackets & More

A fluidized bed is a container of PVC or nylon powder that has air blown into it from the bottom.

This air makes the solid powder “fluidize” or act like a liquid. Piper Plastics typically fluidizes both PVC and Nylon powders in a multitude of colors, and we have some experience with other materials as well.

Using this fluidized bed coating technique, we are able to put beautiful plastic coatings onto sheet metal and wire-forms.

  • This process can work on any substrate that can handle temperatures around 400°F.
  • Because of the nature of the fluidized bed, it is much more difficult to achieve a well-defined “dip line” on parts processed this way, than it is with other techniques such as dip coating.

Therefore, most of our fluid bed work is done on products that need to be fully coated.

Something to consider when employing this process is that the part being coated needs to be held in some fashion while it is being submerged in the fluidized bed.

Typically, there is a small blemish, which can be “repaired” or sealed in post-processing, when this process is performed.
