Do you have an idea for a plastic part that you would like to create for your company? One of the simplest ways to bring that idea to life is through dip molding. This process can be used to create everything from medical connectors to spring reinforced tubes out of materials like plastisol. Here’s how:

Step 1: Bring us your idea

At the beginning of the process, you will bring your initial idea for a plastic part to Piper Plastics and tell us exactly what you have in mind. From there, we will take your idea and create a sketch of the mandrel that will be used to create your parts. We will then engineer a prototype mandrel using a CAD program for you to approve.

Step 2: Creating the prototype

Once you’re happy with the design of the mandrel, we will have our machinists create a prototype of it out of metal. Once finished, we will then test it out by dipping it into several different colors, materials, and thicknesses so that you can get a sense of what the parts will look like. If any adjustments need to be made to the mandrel, we can take care of them at this point.

Step 3: Creating the production tooling

Once you’re completely satisfied with how the parts look, we then create the production tooling. Using what we learned from the prototype phase, we will craft other mandrels that can be used to produce your finished part using the proper materials. We will then initiate a “pilot run” where we will create a batch of parts to make sure you’re satisfied with your new products.

Step 4: Wide-scale production

Finally, if everything looks good and you approve of us pushing forward, we can then move on to a more wide-scale production and create as many parts as you need.

Dip molding is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to produce plastic products. Just bring us an idea and we’ll use all the tools available to us to make sure that idea is turned into a reality. Call us at 800-966-9919 today to get started!
